CAIRO -- ChevronTexaco and ConocoPhillips, the second and third largest U.S. oil groups, are among more than 120 companies bidding to explore and produce oil and gas in Libya, as the North African nation seeks to increase petroleum exports, a Libyan official said.
Tarek Hassan-Beck, director of planning at Libya's state-owned National Oil Corp., said U.S., European and Asian companies have presented offers under a bidding process that will be decided in January. Apache Corp. and Marathon Oil Corp. also are among the applicants, said Hassan-Beck, who spoke by phone from Tripoli.
